What If 1996 Division 1 College Football Had A Playoff?

Show notes

Great Scott… the flux capacitor is charged, the DeLorean is idling, and we’ve punched in a new destination: the 1996 college football season. This was the year Danny Wuerffel turned the Fun ’n Gun into a full-blown football flamethrower, Steve Spurrier finally climbed the mountain in Gainesville, and the Florida Gators football got their long-awaited shot at revenge against Florida State Seminoles football after that regular season classic in Tallahassee. Back then, college football still lived in the strange world of bowl alliances, poll voters, and “well… we think these are the two best teams.” Spoiler alert: nobody really knew. Because while Florida and Florida State were throwing haymakers, teams all across the country were left wondering what might’ve happened if they’d gotten a shot in a real playoff.
